Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then found many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior representative said the incident made him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
