19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid period, managing just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks his first title following the Rome competition and first on a hard court since spring of 2023.

Success also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 titles at 21 various tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my children together, so to get a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six finals, including in that event previously this season.

His retrieving strategy and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted some to question if his skill to perform at the elite level was finished.

But the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, securing four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour championship, took control to push for a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game chances in a competitive final set before the Russian won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, he earned the title with a point at the net, with Moutet failing to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
